Next, the Firewall programs came up. Firewalls were a certain kind of program that allowed restricted entry and exit of a file against a network or any ordinary file. These programs constantly monitor the file system. If an alien file tries to enter in to the existing file system, these programs then study the data and other properties of the file. Then they block its entry, in case they find something wrong about it.

Then there are also a number of virus protecting software programs in the market. For example, the Norton Anti-Virus Software. Viruses are created with an intention to infect the files in order to corrupt the data that most files contain. It is an illegal act. But it is difficult to make out who created a virus and where it came from. This is so because once a virus gets attached to a program, it has a tendency to multiply infinitely. Thus, it spreads and infects other files too. But these anti-virus software programs are highly sophisticated programs that sense a virus at its origin, warns about its presence and eliminates the virus before it takes over the file system.
